History Of The "Special Edition"
Spirit Blade was the first Christian science fiction audio drama produced by Spirit Blade Productions, and though I put a tremendous amount of time and effort into producing it, Spirit Blade also represented the very beginning of my self-taught "sound engineering school". In short, I had no idea what I was doing, learning everything by slowly paced trial and error. (And not much has changed today except for hopefully a little more trial and a little less error.)

After releasing Spirit Blade in 2006 and beginning work on Spirit Blade: Dark Ritual, I noticed almost immediately that I was producing better audio material than I had with Spirit Blade. I had learned so much while working on Spirit Blade and continued to learn a lot more while working on Dark Ritual. I began to suspect that Dark Ritual would be a much stronger project, technically speaking, than Spirit Blade.

When Dark Ritual was released, my suspicions were confirmed as I heard from many listeners how much stronger they felt Dark Ritual was than Spirit Blade. This was a great compliment to get, since sequels are rarely better than the original! But when I started work on Pilgrim's Progress: Similitude Of A Dream, I didn't see the same leap forward in production quality and realized that I had "leveled out" to some degree. The quality between Dark Ritual and Similitude Of A Dream remained fairly consistent. But Spirit Blade was obviously of a lesser caliber in light of the two newer projects.

If Spirit Blade were a stand alone audio drama, I may have left it alone. But I knew that it was the first part of a trilogy. A trilogy that bears the same name as our production company. Spirit Blade is undoubtedly one of the first audio dramas people will look into when first visiting our site and learning about who we are. So it was important to me that we put our best foot forward. Additionally, when the Spirit Blade Trilogy is complete, the special edition of Spirit Blade will provide a much more consistent experience when listening to each part of the trilogy back to back.

To those who have never listened to Spirit Blade, I think you're in for an exciting and dynamic ride! To those who have, believe me, you really haven't. With a new score, entirely remixed songs, additional sound effects and countless other enhancements, Spirit Blade: Special Edition is a whole new ride. But don't worry, you'll feel right at home.

And to those who are "Spirit Blade purists" and actually prefer the original mix(if any of you truly exist), I am so grateful to have you listening! Your support and dedication has helped build the foundation of this little company.
