For a company as small as ours, each CD or download purchased brings us literally a few days closer to investing in the sound samples, software and hardware needed to take each production to the next level, and to finish them more quickly for you!

It makes a big difference just to "get the word out"! We are very careful to avoid "spamming" online and don't wish anyone to spam on our behalf. THE SPIRIT BLADE UNDERGROUND ALLIANCE

To produce more stories, more often, and to make them as readily available as we can, we've established a creative volunteer community called "The Spirit Blade Underground Alliance".

The Alliance is a group of writers, sound mixers, visual artists, actors and musicians who combine their efforts to create sci-fi, fantasy and horror stories that in some way draw audiences closer to Biblical truth. These stories can take a direct approach to Biblical themes, like the Spirit Blade Trilogy, or a more subtle approach where philosophical ideas and symbolism take the place of direct Biblical reference. Those participating in Alliance projects are in no way required to be Christians or to share the same worldview that we do. However, please know in advance that all Alliance projects are driven by a Biblically Christian philosophy.

The Alliance is currently developing audio fiction. Long term, however, we hope to see it involve other forms of storytelling. Material created by The Alliance will not be sold and will be published by Spirit Blade Productions under a Creative Commons License. Alliance projects will be available to download for free on this site and/or featured on The Spirit Blade Underground Podcast.

Paeter Frandsen serves as executive producer for The Spirit Blade Underground Alliance and as a producer for each project developed, helping all involved unite their efforts to produce the very best fiction they can. Everyone involved, including Paeter, participates on a volunteer basis. However, all are given credit for their work, and writers retain their copyright for any scripts used in Alliance projects. (However, they will need to grant Paeter Frandsen and The Spirit Blade Underground Alliance the right to produce their work as an audio project and to release the audio project based on their script under a Creative Commons License.)

As The Alliance gets off of the ground, we're operating based on the production philosophy of "quality over quantity". We're primarily looking for self-contained stories with a run time of 30 minutes or less. This will give writers and mixers a chance to get their feet wet and take their time to polish and produce the best possible work they can with quicker results! As we’ve learned, making an audio project that strives for excellence involves patience and painstaking attention to detail. But the reward is a product that more readily stands the test of time.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Anyone who would like to volunteer or submit material for The Alliance should e-mail Paeter Frandsen at info@spiritblade.net . Please DO NOT send any attachments that have a combined total larger than 1MB. For larger files, please use a free "YouSendit" account at: https://www.yousendit.com/

The following positions constitute a full team for audio production in The Alliance. You may express interest in one or as many as you’d like, and may even serve in more than one capacity at the same time if you are confident your schedule allows for it.

Writers-

If you would like to submit a script or short story for consideration as an Alliance project, simply e-mail it to the address listed above. We're interested in all genres of speculative fiction. Once we have read the script we will let you know whether or not it is something we’d like the Alliance to produce. If your script fits the quality and thematic requirements for an Alliance project, we will get back to you and begin submitting notes for editing and polishing your script for production. This will involve continued correspondence between us until we have a version of your script that we are both happy to see produced. During this process you are not obligated to Spirit Blade Productions in any way and may "pull out" at any time.

Once this process is finished and your script gets the "green light" from us, we will have you sign and mail to us, or electronically approve some simple, clear-cut documentation(which we will provide) that gives Spirit Blade Productions the right to produce and release an audio version of your script under a Creative Commons License. (You still retain the copyright for your script.)

Although we are open to story submissions that take place within the world of the Spirit Blade Trilogy, we are especially interested in completely original material that in some way points to Biblical truth, either directly or thematically. Additionally, although we will produce both audio scripts and short stories, the demand for scripts is higher. Therefore, scripts are more likely to be greenlit than short stories.

Directing/Mixing-

Since the artist mixing an audio project has a great deal of control over the final product as a whole, in many cases the director and the audio mixer will be the same person. If you are interested in mixing or directing an audio project for The Alliance, please send us an e-mail with any credits you have received for mixing audio or directing (even for live theatre or other forms of direction.) If you have been involved as a mixer or director on a previous audio project, an audio clip or link to that project’s website would be very helpful. (Please remember the 1MB limit and utilize "YouSendit" as described above.)

Having no prior experience in mixing or directing will not rule you out for consideration, but it will allow us to look for projects to match you with that can serve as a good starting point. If you would prefer to only mix or only direct, please indicate this in your e-mail so that we can match you up with the right project and people.

The role of "Mixer" also requires that you have access to sound effects for which you PERSONALLY own the recording/synchronization license, or for which personal licensing is not required (such as Public Domain or Creative Commons audio files). We know this can be limiting, but we want to make sure that in every respect we are acting in accordance with and respect for the law. (Romans 13:1-7)

Also, because of the personal investment often involved in obtaining sound effects, a director who owns the license for any of the sound effects used in the final product will be given a producer credit. If you would like to be considered for this position on an Alliance project, please e-mail us with a descriptive overview of sound effects you have licensed, as well as any appropriate audio credits you may have.

Visual Artist-

Every project created by The Alliance will need a logo or "CD cover" image to accompany it on the web. No specific art style is required for this. The chief aim will be to have art that conveys the overall "feel" of the project it represents, along with text that appropriately identifies the project. Please submit art samples or your website link to us via e-mail.

Composer/Music Editor-

This role can be filled by either a composer or a music editor. Using a Creative Commons License for Alliance projects allows us to utilize music available for free on the web that would not be useable in one of our mainline projects. A Music Editor will find music appropriate to the project, based on the director’s expressed desires for each scene. The Music Editor will use a rough cut of the finished audio drama to edit and synchronize a musical score. When finished, the Music Editor will give his/her edited tracks to the mixer to mix into the final edit.

A Composer will follow the same procedure, using his/her own creations instead. A Music Editor who purchases music that is used in the project will receive a producer credit. A Composer who allows his/her music to be used in the project will need to sign and send us some clear cut documentation(which we will provide), giving Spirit Blade Productions the right to use their music in an audio project released under a Creative Commons License. Composers may choose to retain their copyright for music used this way. A single person may also choose to use a combination of their own compositions and those of others. All music used requires documentation that proves you own the license or that a license is not required.

Actors-

It’s always fun to hear auditions from fans of speculative fiction genres, but we will always look to cast the best actor possible for each role. Having said that, we hope to have many opportunities for actors of all skill levels and would love to get an audition from you, whether you're a seasoned pro or brand new to voice acting!

Actors are invited to send an audio demo of their previous voice work to us any time using a free "YouSendit" account as described above. Audition notices will be posted at The Spirit Blade Underground Weblog
and sent out with our newsletter. If you are unable to record and e-mail your own lines and live in the Phoenix area (Arizona), you may contact us to set up an audition. If cast, we will schedule time for you to record your lines in studio with Paeter Frandsen. Those outside of the Phoenix area must be able to record their own lines and send them to us (via YouSendit) in mp3 format at a bit rate of 128kb or higher. When recording your audition, please give attention to your microphone levels. You are also advised to use a pop filter. Distortions in audio quality or "pops" on your "P’s" or other consonants will reduce your chances of being cast.
